The CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tools consist of several computer applications which are intended toraise the productivity during the software development processes.Time and costs are reduced by this tool.
The Conselleria de Infraestructuras y Transporte (CIT) decided to migrate to a Linux CASE tool as a part of its open software migrationproject (2004-2008) called gvPONTIS. A detailed research about the compatibility between the actual CASE tools and the specific requirements of the gvPONTIS was done. The project viability was also verified in terms of to which point the substitution of the Power Designer application by the CASE tools and their adaptation to the working methodology was possible. The Power Designer application can only be used under a Windows environment and that is the reason why it was not an appropriate application for the open software migration project of the CIT.
An exhaustive research of the actual CASE tools, which work under Linux environments, was done. The aim of this research was to finally implement the best solution by finding and solving all the existing deficiencies, taking into consideration all the possible alternatives and the established requirements.
